DAY ONE July 9 DAY TWO July 10 DAY THREE July 11
DAY ONE(Wednesday) Well I got here on Wednesday and as usual the plus was hustling.  There were people everywhere, getting checked in, finding rooms, etc.  It was interesting to watch all of the american athletes as they worked their way around the different languages.  It is an eye opening experience for those athletes, as reality set in that the world is larger that they thought.  I am still amazed by Duffy Mahoney as I watched him keep everything organized.  The New York accent is still there, but the experience shows through.  Kudos go to other members of the staff, although I still don't know their names.  Among them, Freda (sp?), Jose Rodriguez (boy, is that a blast from the past!) and my new found hero, Bob Podkaminer, a REAL meet guru on a computer.  I also cant say enough about the FLORIDA2012 and Ed Taranchick (the president of florida 2012).  You also may want to check out the TECO energy site that has a lot of past history about the Junior Pan Am Games.  Well, there isn't much  more to add today, but I will try and do a better job tomorrow and even throw in some pictures.
Day TWO (Thursday)  Well, it was another long day.  We spent the early morning in the office and I took the opportunity to snap some pictures at the office of the Florida 2012 Olympic Bid.  Several of the coaches found out that I am going to be posting pictures of the athletes on the internet and I was immediately inundated with requests.  I even got a phone call from a reported In Hawaii (that had called my home in Orlando and talked to my wife and got my cell number).  I guess the world is changing (Except Duffy, who spends a small portion of the day complaining about modern technology).  I spent the better part of the day translating for the spanish speaking people (thanks Bob Hersh for telling me how to say Hammer in spanish!!).  Well I am sorry that this is going to be a little light on the info, but it is 2:30 am and tomorrow is a big day.  I finished posting the heat sheetsand to the parent for brazil; Yo tengo su pertiga para su hija.  Check out the pictures on the site!!
DAY THREE (Friday, first Day of competition).  Can we say Rain, Tornadoes and high winds?  Although it did not happen during the Pan Am portion, it did occur during the youth games that caused the youth meet to be delayed.  As a results of afternoon showers during the youth meet, the meet was pushed back about 2 hours and finished at about 11:00 PM tonight with the men's 10,000.  The competition was fierce and the people were great.  Also today, several of the big names in HS track and field showed up with Jim Spier, Mike Byrnes and Last, but certainly not least, Doug Speck, the statistical guru for Junior athletes.  Check out the pictures and results,  there are a bunch today.  -  Fred

This will be your one stop site for keeping you up to date on the Pan American Junior Track and Field Championships that are being held in Tampa July 9-11, 1999.  I will also post pictures from the meet.  The meet is a cooperative effort between Florida2012 (the local organizing committee bidding on the 2012 Olympics) and USA Track and Field .
